What is telemedicine?

Telemedicine is receiving care from our nurse practitioner via videoconferencing. Erica resides out of our state, but is licensed in New Mexico and excited to support our community with her extensive skills and endearing compassion.

What can I expect?

In order to be scheduled with Erica, you will need to complete our Referral for Medication Evaluation form and your therapist/counselor will need to complete our Provider Referral for Medication Evaluation. Please complete these forms with as much detail as possible so Erica is aware of what you would like to address with her. Upon receipt of these referrals and your insurance information, our office will contact you and schedule your appointment with Erica. Once you are scheduled with Erica, you can expect to receive a web link that will connect you with Erica during your appointment time. Please be sure to be located in a safe, quiet environment for your session to ensure the best use of your appointment time.

Is telemedicine as effective as in person psychiatry?

There is substantial evidence of the effectiveness of telemedicine and research has shown it to be equivalent to in-person care. There may be situations in which this is not the appropriate format for your care, at which time we would refer you to an in-person provider. The American Psychiatric Association provides additional information regarding the effectiveness of telemedicine/telepsychiatry here.

Do I have to see a therapist at A New Hope in order to see Erica for medications?

While we do require that you are currently in therapy with a provider, you do not have to be seeing a therapist at A New Hope in order to see Erica! If you are currently seeing a therapist or counselor in our community, you are welcome to make an appointment with us. We do require that your therapist completes the Provider Referral for Medication form and a release of information so we may coordinate your care with them.

You are not alone - we are here to help!
