Hello everyone! My name is Amy Chacon. I graduated from NMSU with a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy. As a child, I was always fascinated by our emotions, how they’re connected to our behavior and why we experience these emotions. Growing up with this interest and having passion for helping my community is what lead me into wanting to become a Mental Health Therapist.
I believe the importance of progress versus perfection because we are humans with our own stories and life experiences. I am a big nerd that is into a variety of nerdy things such as being a big fan on video games like The Legend of Zelda, Resident Evil, Pokemon and tons more! I also am a fan of popular shows about growth and perseverance such as Dragon Ball Z, Avatar the Last Airbender, The Legend of Korra, and Bojack Horseman. I offer a welcoming and comforting energy into session because I want my clients to feel safe as they share about themselves while feeling accepted.
I utilize a Systematic approach to therapy which focuses on the Family System, who we are individually and who we are interpersonally. I explore family upbringings, map out what has been passed down generations and identify how past generations are impacting the present. I utilize theory models such as Bowenian, Structural, Contextual and Internal Family Systems. I enjoy helping my clients break away from the chains of the past or dysfunctional family patters that have been passed down, finding their inner strength and healing their inner child for I believe the inner child always stays with us.
I am trained in Trauma Informed Care and utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to treat PTSD. I enjoy helping my clients heal and overcome their trauma through learning about neuroplascity, challenging cognitive distortions that have been developed, teaching skills about emotional self regulation, reconnecting with the body, removing self blame for something that was not their fault and embracing self love.
“You’ll laugh at your fears when you find out who you are”
Piccolo (Dragon Ball Z)
“In the darkest times, hope is something you give yourself. That is the meaning of inner strength.”
Uncle Iroh (Avatar The Last Airbender)
“When we hit our lowest point, we are open to the greatest change”
Avatar Aang (The Legend of Korra)
“It takes a long time to realize how truly miserable you are, and even longer to see it doesn’t have to be that way.”
Cuddly Whisker (Bojack Horseman)
